Honeymoons are meant for baller #yolo moments… at least that’s what the voices in my head told me when I booked our first hotel of the trip. We stayed at the Art Deco Hotel Montana in Lucerne in the penthouse corner suite complete with a private jacuzzi on our own rooftop terrace overlooking the gorgeous city.
Lucerne is a 45 minute drive from the ZRH airport, and like I said, the driving is really easy in Switzerland. The hotel has about 14 free parking spots out front and if you aren’t lucky enough to snag one of those they do have a parking garage for around $20 per night. Lucerne is such a dreamy city- the views of the lake, city AND mountains are absolutely stunning. It looks straight out of a movie. The views (see photo below) from our rooftop terrace alone made this suite worth the $540 price tag.
Art Deco Hotel Montana is situated about a 10 minute walk to the city center. We loved taking the funicular down from the hotel to get to the waterfront each time we went out. It made going anywhere an adventure.
Like I said, we stayed in the penthouse corner suite. It’s definitely larger than your standard European-sized room but the best part is obviously the private terrace and jacuzzi. The terrace extended to the left of the jacuzzi (see the photo below) to views of the lake and mountains as well. You really get panoramic 360 views in the penthouse.
I can’t even tell you how many hotel rooms I’ve stayed in and had the worst sleep ever because the bed was too stiff & the pillows were too flat… not here. This was the best sleep we had on the honeymoon- it could be due to 10+ hours of traveling on little to no sleep the day after our rager of a wedding BUT I’ll give credit to the comfy bed. It was amazing.
Just off the bedroom is a gorgeous bathroom with a large rain shower and my favorite- the European towel warmer rack. There’s doors in the bedroom which lead you to the private terrace as well. We had a separate living room with a couch, a comfy chair and some welcome snacks and champs. Best part- a complimentary Nespresso machine! This is also where you can access the rooftop terrace and jacuzzi. There’s a few sets of chairs and tables on the terrace which would be amazing to use on a nice summer day.
The hotel has a gorgeous live music bar, a swanky restaurant, a cigar lounge, a terrace restaurant AND a summertime beach club. Once again, looks like I need to come back during summer!
If you find yourself in Lucerne, I highly recommend booking your stay at the Art Deco Hotel Montana! The staff was extremely helpful- Nicola provided us with some great recommendations for restaurants and what to do and see around town. We were beyond thrilled with our room selection too- I just wish we had more than one night there! We hopped in the jacuzzi with our champagne after exploring the city before we got ready for dinner. Gotta take advantage of that! The rooftop terrace was also great for bringing breakfast back to the room in the morning before we drove to our next stop- Lugano!
