Hotel Splendide Royal in Lugano

I’ve never related to Marie Antoinette (pre-decapitation) more in my life than during my short time staying in a gorgeous 2 room suite at The Hotel Splendide Royal in Lugano. This was the second stop on our honeymoon tour of Switzerland and I’ve never felt more like a princess in my life… which is saying a lot for me. I mean, my iPhone even calls me Queen Lauren.

The Hotel Splendide Royal is a beautiful 5-star hotel with just 86 rooms situated directly on Lake Lugano and a quick walk to the city center. From the moment we pulled up in our car, I knew we were going to be spoiled by the amazing staff. While our room was getting the final touches we enjoyed a few welcome beverages and snacks in the hotel’s Piano Bar.

Just as we finished our drinks we were given a brief tour of the hotel and then we were shown to our suite. When selecting a hotel I tend to search the internet for photos so I had an idea of what to expect but nothing prepared me for the views and the luxuriousness of the suite itself. Mind blown. I’ll just let the photos speak for themselves.

The bedroom led out to a balcony with views beyond words. Lugano looks like a cross between Italy and a Caribbean island. The views are simply stunning.

Next to the bedroom was a large separate room with plenty of seating, a desk and once again my favorite: a Nespresso machine. This room also has a separate balcony… I’m telling you- princess moments here!

Every vacation from now on I want to tell the staff we’re on our honeymoon because you definitely get exceptional treatment. The hotel went above and beyond for us in making our short stay feel special. Rose petals lined the bathtub and counter tops and they even attempted to deliver us a bottle of champagne and a cake but I made the mistake of having the ‘do not disturb’ sign on our door- they kindly gave us a goody bag to take the champs & cake to our next hotel which we enjoyed immediately. But that didn’t stop us from bringing some drinks up to our room to enjoy the gorgeous Lugano sunset on our balcony. We knew we had to take advantage of these views as much as possible so we spent a good amount of our evening on the balcony.

Breakfast was included so we made our way to the hotel’s La Veranda Restaurant for a buffet style meal.

After breakfast we enjoyed the last bit of sunshine on our balcony before driving to the snowy ski town of Zermatt.

The Hotel Splendide Royal is a member of the Leading Hotels of the World– a group of more than 375 unique luxury hotels spanning over 75 countries. This group has the highest standards for their hotels and that is very apparent during your stay here. In fact, in 2016 the hotel was awarded the “Happy Guest Award” which is proudly displayed in their lobby. They outshone the 375+ hotels to earn this award which is beyond impressive. I would personally award them this honor time and time again.

Without a doubt I plan on returning to The Hotel Splendide Royal, hopefully sooner rather than later. Lugano is actually celebrating their 130th anniversary this year… maybe we’ll return next year to celebrate our anniversary!
