Happy Monday everyone! I’m taking full advantage of my day off to recover from all the traveling I’ve been doing these past few weeks. On Saturday I got home from a 3 day trip with a long Seattle layover… Let me tell you- long Seattle layovers are a very rare blessing so I had to make the most of my time in the Pacific Northwest. I’ve had several Seattle layovers but this is the first one where I was in a downtown location close to all the action. Being blocks away from Nordstrom headquarters AND Pike Place Market will do somethin’ to a girl.
I started to explore around lunch time when I found a food truck hangout spot downtown. I decided to try out the ‘New York Style Chicken Over Rice’ truck. They’re aiming for The Halal Guys level of perfection which is my favorite street food in New York City… They did a pretty good job!
After lunch and some (a lot) of shopping at Nordstrom headquarters I made my way to Pike Place Market. Wandering the market is an incredible experience! All the food is so fresh and delicious.. I wish I could bring home all the peaches I tried! Another thing I love about the market is the beautiful arrangements of flowers. The colors are so vibrant and stunning and the bouquets are surprisingly inexpensive. The local vendors just brought out their fall florals and I was beyond happy for the colors.
One spot I had to see was the original Starbucks, located across the street from Pike Place Market. The line was of course around the block so I didn’t stop inside for my coffee… I picked mine up a block away where there was no line.
From Pike Place Market I made my way down to the waterfront and walked the trail on Alaskan Way to Olympic Sculpture Park as per a recommendation from a fellow flight attendant friend. The weather was pretty gloomy and drizzled the entire time but it felt perfect for Seattle. The walk took me down the waterfront and past all the big cruise ship docks. I even got a good view of the Space Needle. Thanks to a little self timer action on my iPhone I took some fun photos at the most beautiful part of the walk. I’m 100% NOT a nature girl but this made me want to be. From my view I expected to spot a whale or two in Elliot’s Bay but I wasn’t lucky enough. Whale watching is on my bucket list and Seattle seems like the perfect location for it… I’ll have to come back when it’s whale season!
Stay tuned for my next adventure in Dusseldorf, Germany!
